Do Not Settle For Anything Less Than What You Deserve
“Life isn’t a bed of roses”. This statement holds true in every context if we talk about the current situation in Pakistan. The universities in Pakistan are churning out thousands and thousands of graduates annually and only a handful percentage of them gets absorbed in the job market. While studying at the university, every student expects that he/she would get a decent job immediately after graduating, but to their dismay they end up being unemployed or doing jobs that they are not educated or groomed for. Most of them reach to the tipping point where they want to do anything that is offered to them and at the minimum salary. This is where the organizations start exploiting the unemployment. They offer the MBA graduates a mere salary of 10-15 thousand rupees, which is equal to any servant / security guard working at our houses. Talking about myself, I started off with my first job after graduation and landed at a job after 8 months and was offered a salary of 7 thousand only. This was devastating for me as I had somewhat higher ambitions.
Talking about a large FMCG bottler in Islamabad, they pay their Management Trainees a total of 5 thousand rupees a month for a period of one year. The logic that they present for such a low salary is that, “we are giving you an experience of FMCG industry”. I give a damn to this experience which is a death blow to my career ambitions. But unlike me, most of the young grads end up taking up such job with logic that, “kuch naa honay se tau behtar haina”. A student who spends around half a million on higher studies at a decent university, at least deserves a decent job.
I believe the universities should now focus more on counseling the students about the career path they should follow, and to not settle for anything less than what they deserve.
